Uruguay is pursuing a direct flight to the Middle East, as well as access to Qatar Airways’ full network of connections around the world.

This issue was discussed at a recent meeting between Luis Lacalle Pou, Uruguayan President, and executives of the Arab airline in order to present a plan for the integration of the South American country into Qatar’s destinations.

According to EFE news agency, Lacalle Pou stated: » We were very happy with our meeting with Qatar’s CEO. We presented him a sound business plan and we will move forward to explore whether we can reach some kind of connectivity with this airline, considered to be one of the most important in the world».

During the President’s visit to the Middle East, Uruguay and Qatar also signed «an agreement for mutual exemption of entry visas» between citizens of both countries with the aim of facilitating the movement of Qataris and Uruguayans, as well as companies and investors.

As reported by our partner Aeroin, Qatar Airways presently flies only to Brazil in South America and is expected to resume operations to Argentina in the near future.
