JetSMART 7th Anniversary: 20 Million Passengers, 70 Routes and 25 Aircraft

On July 25th, JetSMART celebrates its seventh anniversary of foundation and its sixth year since the beginning of its regular flights.

In this context, the ultra-low-cost carrier has also received the 25th aircraft of its fleet, an Airbus A321neo with the registration CC-AWY, baptized «Ñandú» as this animal is printed on its tail fin. This is the fifth A321 that JetSMART has received, which have a capacity for 240 passengers and allow a 25% reduction in fuel consumption per seat and emissions. Its fleet is complemented with 11 A320ceo (9 of them in the Argentine subsidiary) and 9 A320neo.

JetSMART highlighted that since its beginnings it has transported more than twenty million passengers. The company landed in Chile and then opened a subsidiary in Argentina in 2019 and another one in Peru in 2022, which will be followed by one in Colombia (to which they already fly from Chile), already constituted but in the process of certification. Their over 70 routes also reach Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

“I am deeply grateful to our entire JetSMART team, the Rockstars, and also to our 20 million customers who have trusted us and flown SMART. We are the fastest-growing airline in South America and we celebrate the arrival of our 25th aircraft,» said Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSMART.

«After the crises due to the pandemic and fuel prices, I look optimistically at our flight towards 100 million passengers and 100 aircraft by 2028. It has been seven years since we started the company and it fills me with pride to see grateful customers who can fly, who instead of spending 30 hours on a bus, being unable to see their family or not knowing their own country have managed to transport themselves at a low cost. That’s why we came to the market, to make a difference,» added the executive, who recently received the Airline Strategy Award for leading the transformation of the commercial aviation industry in Latin America.

Part of Indigo Partners (Wizz Air, Frontier Airlines, and Volaris), JetSMART also received backing from American Airlines in 2021, which invested in its capital and with which it is also making progress in code-sharing agreements for flights between the United States and Chile.

«This alliance opens up new opportunities for all people who want to travel across the American continent, thanks to route options that include the destinations of American Airlines, which can already be purchased on the aa.com website for several cities in Chile and to connect with their worldwide network,» said Víctor Mejía, CCO of JetSMART.
