Volotea keeps its intention to play a significant economic and social role on Corsica, and plans to establish a base there within the next 2 years.

With over a decade of presence on the island, Volotea plans to open a new base on the island if the traffic growth continues. The company says it will commit especially if it is awarded public service delegation routes. The airline stated that it will sustain its growth and provide the largest number of seats in 2024 since its inception in 2012. It plans to provide more than 900,000 seats for the first time ever, marking a 12% increase since 2019. Since its inception, Volote has transported more than 6 million passengers. If all goes according to plan, it will surpass 7 million passengers by year-end.

With the addition of 6 new destinations, the company is betting big on Corsica and its growth dynamics. Volotea currently links Corsica and the mainland with 29 routes, including 16 exclusive ones. It connects 9 major French cities to Corsica’s four airports. For this summer season, the company has shown strong from June to July, transporting over 270,000 passengers, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2018.

An average load factor of 94% in the past year is evidence of the solid position of the airline. Additionally, Volotea boasts a 90% recommendation rate from its customers. This achievement led the company to receive the Skytrax World Airline Award for “Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe” last year.

Carlos Muñoz, CEO and Founder of Volotea, said that his company “is staunchly committed to continuously supporting Corsica’s development. By establishing a new base in Corsica we believe in playing a key role in the region’s economic dynamism and radiance. We take pride in expanding our seat offerings and adding new destinations to facilitate connections between the island and the mainland”.  France accounts for nearly 60% of Volotea’s operation. The airline has eight bases in the country: Nantes, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, and Lourdes.
