Abu Dhabi International Airport to open new terminal for winter season

Abu Dhabi Airports is scheduled for early November 2023 to open Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new terminal, known as the Midfield Terminal Building during the first phase of construction.

The opening of “Terminal A” adds to the rapid evolution of Abu Dhabi’s transportation infrastructure, reinforcing the potential of local aviation and positioning the UAE as a global hub for trade and business.

The new terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, features a series of interconnected biometric systems that will provide travelers with greater convenience and speed of a digitized journey, from the pre-trip phase to the boarding gate, facilitated by self-service kiosks, streamlined security checkpoints and baggage handling systems.

Terminal A” has an area of 742,000 square meters, is one of the largest airport terminals in the world and will significantly increase passenger and cargo movement at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Once operational, the new terminal will handle up to 45 million passengers per year, will be able to process 11,000 travelers per hour and will operate 79 aircraft at all times.

The new terminal has won international design awards and marks an architectural landmark in the Abu Dhabi cityscape. In line with the UAE’s sustainability aspirations and goals, the facility has energy-efficient lighting, advanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and has incorporated sustainable materials into its construction.

The terminal will also feature luxurious lounges, relaxation areas and spa facilities. With 163 retail outlets, the retail offerings at “Terminal A” will appeal to both leisure and business travelers.
