Mexicana de Aviación Targets 18 Destinations in the US, Canada and South America with Embraer E2 Fleet

Since Mexicana de Aviación resumed its regular flights on December 26th, it has transported 140,762 passengers as of June 6th. This figure was revealed today by José Gerardo Vega Rivera, general director of the Grupo Aeroportuario Ferroviarios de Servicios Generales y Conexos Olmeca-Maya-Mexica, under whose management the state airline operates.

A total of 2,990 operations were carried out, representing 3,762 flight hours and 2,311,257 kilometers flown, averaging 1,025 passengers per day. The destinations with the highest load factor, they noted, were Tulum, Tijuana, Mérida, Ixtepec, and Ciudad Victoria.

Mexicana offers fares that meet the needs of passengers“, said Vega, indicating that the average fare is 880 Mexican pesos (~USD 49) compared to 1,100 with other airlines.

The director also detailed the delivery schedule of the new Embraer E-Jets E2 aircraft, whose purchase was announced last week. Five E195-E2 will arrive in the second quarter of 2025, seven E190-E2 will arrive in 2026, and three E190-E2 and five E195 E2 will be delivered in 2026. The configuration will be 108 seats for the E190-E2 and 132 for the E195-E2.

With these new aircraft, Mexicana de Aviación plans to fly to 11 international destinations: Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Miami in the United States; and San José-CR, Panama, Bogotá, and Havana in Latin America and the Caribbean. “This contributes to national development and generates more than 1,500 direct jobs and 4,500 indirect jobs in the national aviation sector,” commented Vega.

The company also plans to establish two secondary bases: one in Tijuana to fly to Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Portland, and another in Tulum to fly to Caracas, Punta Cana, and Lima.

With these strategic decisions, Mexicana aims to establish itself as one of the best air transport options“, concluded Vega, detailing that with this they expect to move three million passengers per year.

The Mexicana de Aviación network operated with the three Boeing 737-800s reaches Tijuana, San José del Cabo, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Chetumal, Mérida, and Tulum.

With the two Embraer ERJ-145s, it covers flights to Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Victoria, Uruapan, Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Ixtepec, Palenque, Villahermosa, and Campeche.
