ITA Airways joins SkyTeam after Alitalia ceased operations on October 14. The alliance thereby regains its lost member. Alitalia’s famous VIP lounge was located at Fiumicino airport, where those who flew frequently on partner airlines could enjoy it.
«For more than 20 years, the Italian market has been a cornerstone of SkyTeam’s European network and no other airline alliance provides a better connection between Italy and the world. We very warmly welcome ITA Airways’ decision to join our alliance and ensure continuity of service for the millions of customers who consistently choose SkyTeam as their alliance of preference in Italy. SkyTeam and our members look forward to working with ITA Airways to establish long-term partnership opportunities in the future», said Walter Cho, president of the alliance.
Alfredo Altavilla, CEO of ITA Airways said, «Joining SkyTeam is a natural step, allowing us to continue to provide the global network and seamless experience that customers flying to and from Italy expect. We look forward to working closely with our SkyTeam partners to support the launch of our company, the Italian flag carrier».
SkyTeam decided to provide benefits to those affiliated with the MilleMiglia program, with mileage redemptions to fly with other member airlines.
