Norwegian released its operating results for the month of April, which show a significant increase in the number of passengers traveling on its aircraft.
Last month the airline carried 1,400,396 passengers, a 50% increase over the number of passengers reported in March. Compared to April 2021, the number of passengers increased 20-fold, as last year in the same month only 59,431 seats were occupied.
“1.4 million passengers chose to fly with Norwegian in April. This is more than twice as many as two months ago, and I am pleased to see that demand for air travel continues to grow,” said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.
“In a short period of time, we have increased capacity substantially, and at the same time improved our revenues,” he added.
Norwegian started the summer traffic program at the end of March, and despite the number of new routes launched, the load factor remained high at 78.7%.
Capacity (ASK) was 2.242 million seat-kilometers, while actual passenger traffic (RPK) was 1.764 million seat-kilometers. The airline adds that distance flown increased by 93%, and punctuality was fifteen points below the figures achieved in 2021, at 82.6%.
In April, Norwegian operated an average of sixty aircraft, and 99.3 of scheduled flights were completed, despite punctuality being slightly affected by capacity issues at several airports.
Booking figures for the summer are positive and the company sees an increasing number of corporate travelers wishing to travel with Norwegian.
