Spain to strengthen its anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense with Patriot PAC3 systems

The U.S. Government authorized the possible sale to Spain of Patriot Configuration-3+ modernized fire units and related equipment for an estimated cost of 2.8 billion dollars.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) issued a press release informing of the possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Government of Spain of four modernized Patriot Configuration-3+ anti-aircraft and anti-missile missile batteries consisting of:

  • 51 PATRIOT Advanced Capability (PAC) 3 Missile Segment Enhanced (MSE) missiles (includes one (1) Fly-to-Buy missile, for test firing);
  • 24 PATRIOT M903 launch stations;
  • 4 AN/MPQ-65 radar sets;
  • 4 AN/MSQ-132 Combat Command and Control stations;
  • 2 Information Coordination Centers (ICC);
  • 8 groups of Antenna Masts;
  • 4 power stations;
  • 4 energy power units.

Also included is communications equipment; tools and test equipment; range and test programs; support equipment and services comprising Skids kits, telemetry kits, generators, publications, and technical documentation; training equipment; spare and repair parts; as well as training and preparation of Spanish personnel on the Patriot system. The total estimated cost is $2.8 billion.
