The surcharge will range from 1 to 72 euros and will apply to tickets issued from June 26, 2024, for departures starting January 1, 2025, depending on the route and flight fare. The exact amount will be detailed on the booking pages of the Lufthansa Group airlines.
«The group cannot fully absorb the increasing costs of regulatory requirements,» the airline said in a statement. «The new surcharge aims to partially cover these anticipated expenses for 2025.»
The group is committed to achieving CO₂ neutrality by 2050 and aims to halve its net CO₂ emissions by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. Key strategies include fleet modernization, flight operation optimization, increased use of SAF, and the provision of sustainability options for travelers and cargo transport.
