Griffin Global Asset Management has placed an order with Airbus for six Airbus A220-300, which will be leased to Croatia Airlines. The new aircraft are expected to arrive at the Croatian airline starting in 2026.
The leasing agreement for the six A220-300 between Griffin and Croatia Airlines completes the portfolio of 15 aircraft that the airline announced as part of its fleet modernization plan.
Additionally, Croatia Airlines’ plan includes acquiring aircraft from the A220 family under the leasing model: six with Air Lease Corporation, three with Azzora, and six with Griffin.
Marc Baer, President of Griffin, stated: «Our order for six A220 aircraft is the next natural step for Griffin as we continue to support the growth and replacement needs of airlines worldwide. This order is based on our already strong relationship with Airbus, and we are delighted to expand our partnership with them for many years.»
In response, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Commercial Sales at Airbus, said: «Airbus welcomes Griffin, adding the A220 to its portfolio in support of a financing operation with Croatia Airlines. This is another significant endorsement from the leasing community that highlights the appeal of the A220 in the market and its sustainability.»
«The A220 is the only clean design aircraft specifically aimed at the 100-150 seat market, offering unparalleled performance and fuel savings in its class. It is also a market leader in passenger comfort. We appreciate and look forward to continuing our collaboration with Griffin,» added Saint-Exupéry.
In late 2021, the airline initiated discussions with Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer with the aim of replacing its Airbus A319ceo and A320ceo with aircraft better suited to Croatia’s seasonal market and operational needs.
The company plans to standardize its fleet, replacing all A319ceo, A320ceo, and De Havilland Canada Dash 8 aircraft with Airbus A220s in the next four years.
