Last Thursday, June 3, the American Airlines flight AA 946 took off from the Quito International Airport to Miami, becoming the third daily operation of the North American airline from the airport of the Ecuadorian capital.

This new frequency represents a growth of 48.1% in seats compared to 2019, showing a sustained recovery in traffic not only in Quito, but also in the region. This new flight, operated with the Boeing 737 MAX with a capacity for 172 passengers, will depart from Quito every morning at 01:30, arriving in the city of Miami at 06:50, and will leave this city every night at 21:29, arriving in Quito at 00:30.

For its inauguration, a ceremony was held following the corresponding health protocols, in which the authorities from the Ministry of Tourism, the North American airline and the Quito airport participated, and expressed the importance that this new operation towards the United States represents.

Omar Nottaro, American Airlines Operations Director in Ecuador and Colombia, commented on the situation: “We are excited to announce additional frequencies to Miami, from the two main airports in Ecuador. We have a commitment of more than three decades with Ecuador and we will continue betting on this market.”

On the other hand, the Vice Minister of Tourism Ana García Pando also spoke during the event and mentioned that “it is a pride to share with the industry the international trust that Corporación Quiport, its partners, investors and workers have generated by developing pioneering biosafety protocols and processes in the continent.”

Finally, Ramón Miró, the President and CEO of Quiport, dedicated a few words to congratulate American Airlines for its decision and commitment to the region by adding frequencies to Miami, the most successful route of the Ecuadorian airport in the city of Quito and he also added: “this third daily American Airlines flight from Quito is nothing more than reliable proof of, on the one hand, the promising outlook of the recovering airline industry and, on the other, a commitment to Quito and Ecuador.”

“We thank the airline for this vote of confidence and we promise to reciprocate it with the careful and diligent work that characterizes the Quito airport,” he concluded.
