Menzies Aviation has acquired a majority stake in the Jamaican handling company, AJAS Limited, which will now be known as Menzies AJAS and align with other companies within the Menzies Group.
“We’ve been providing ground services in the Caribbean for over 20 years and are excited to expand our presence to Jamaica at a time when the aviation industry is experiencing a post-COVID-19 crisis,” said John Redmond, Executive Vice President for the Americas at Menzies Aviation.
AJAS Limited has been operating in Jamaica for over 82 years and employs nearly 600 people. The company provides ramp, passenger, and cargo handling services to several international airlines at Jamaica’s two major airports: Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (KIN) and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ).
According to the AJAS website, the company serves Southwest, United Airlines, British Airways, Condor, Cayman Airways, Copa Airlines, Frontier, and Caribbean Airlines, among others.
The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks, pending regulatory approvals. The rebranding to Menzies AJAS and integration into Menzies’ global network, which spans six continents, will begin in February.
