Iberia Maintenance has announced that its facilities at La Muñoza, located next to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, are now fully operational to perform complete overhauls of Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines, including disassembly, assembly, and testing. This expansion strengthens the company’s position in the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) market.
Since 2022, Iberia Maintenance has been part of the GTF MRO network, providing maintenance for the PW1100G-JM engines that power the Airbus A320neo family. The company has introduced cutting-edge technologies for engine grinding and balancing, and adapted its test bench with the specific equipment needed for this engine model. Additionally, it has expanded its team of mechanics to increase GTF service capacity.
Enrique Robledo, director of Iberia Maintenance, stated: «With the introduction of GTF engines to our service portfolio, we have made a significant step forward in the market, as it allows us to cover more engine models thanks to the capabilities we’ve acquired. Our goal as an MRO provider is to meet the needs of our customers, and with this milestone, we can service both traditional engines and the newer ones that will power fleets for decades to come.»
Rob Griffiths, senior vice president of Commercial Engine Operations at Pratt & Whitney, emphasized Iberia Maintenance’s contribution: «Iberia Maintenance brings more than 90 years of MRO experience to the Pratt & Whitney network, with a proven track record in maintaining the V2500 engine.» He also highlighted that expanding the GTF MRO network to 18 workshops «allows us to serve and provide quality service to our European customers as their fleets continue to grow.»
The IAG group, to which Iberia belongs, operates 47 Airbus A320neo aircraft powered by GTF engines, five of which are flown by Iberia. This addition to the MRO network strengthens Iberia Maintenance’s position as one of Europe’s leading centers for cutting-edge engine overhauls.
