#TBT: Ladeco flights to Canada and United States from South America in 1995

Líneas Aéreas del Cobre, or its acronym Ladeco, was a Chilean airline founded on November 1st, 1958. During its early years, the company was focused on mining transportation within Chile, later making the transition to scheduled domestic and international operations.

Ladeco’s main markets, excluding Chile, were Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, United States and Uruguay, among others.

In the mid-1970s, Ladeco began operations in the United States with its Boeing 727s. Later, following the incorporation of Boeing 757s and Airbus A300s, the latter under an agreement with Carnival, the company made its first non-stop flights, which departed from Santiago de Chile. Also, Baltimore and Montreal were other additions of the Chilean airline, to and from Miami.

Complete network

In 1998, after being acquired by LAN Chile a few years earlier, Ladeco ceased operations.

With this move by LAN, the airline was left with almost the entire air transport in Chile. Routes, frequencies and aircraft of Ladeco were absorbed by LAN Chile.
